Count me in the camp that enjoyed much (but not all) of our game on Saturday. I do wonder if the coaches actually viewed it as a matchup worth preparing for, or in truth, a good scrimmage opportunity to practice how to prepare for real opponents.
So I've read all the rrs post game content, and I'm mostly happy with special teams and defense. I enjoyed watching our D and didn't cringe when we were on defense, and that was new.
I'm not unhappy with offense....but I wonder:
1. Will our RB by committee change much? Will the ratio of carries just change, or the order of who plays first? I feel like I heard Wells say they wanted this game to detmine RB depth order. I think Shyne did quite well, but I wonder if at the end of the season the depth will go Shyne, Henry, Thompson, or if it will be Thompson, Henry, Shyne. I have this lingering feeling Shyne is what he is, but Thompson is still growing into a better version of Shyne and Henry is a smaller changeup.
2. The offense was fine, and effective....but vanilla. Didnt feel like there was too much misdirection, like I got accustomed to with Kliff. Will it remain so straightforward, or is Yost holding quite a bit back and the O we saw Saturday is more practicing the fundamentals, working on getting the run game going so we can be more explosive?
Or is the problem that Montana State was playing us deep, so we usually stayed short because that's what they gave us?
