most here are already aware, but the program's Director of Player Personnel - Aaron Burks - decided to leave and return to the corporate recruiting world a few weeks ago.

over the past week, the RRS team and I have learned that Matt Wells is working to backfill the position and would prefer to turn the one position into two positions...adding headcount to the program's recruiting operations.

anytime the university hires for these positions, there is usually at least a two week timeline the positions have to be officially posted and then filled...but I can confirm they have been interviewing candidates for the Director of Player Personnel and another recruiting role within the program.

there have been candidates from both the SEC and ACC who have interviewed so far, and I have confirmed at least one DFW-area high school recruiting coordinator has interviewed with the program.

while the DFW-area high school coach is an attractive option for a variety of reasons, there is a potential roadblock with that option...there is a rule essentially making it impossible to hire high school coaches or trainers, meaning if the Tech program hired said high school coach, the Red Raiders could not recruit at that high school program for the next two (2) years.

maybe not the end of the world, but we are talking I-20 cooridor and multiple P5 prospects per year program here...so the rule is a deterent in this situation, but I would argue the two (2) year waiting period is worth it for the right candidate.

with the bad weather and all, I don't expect to see anyting on these potential hires anytime soon, but wanted to share what we had learned so far.
