For those who enjoy cruising, the Port of Galveston just inked a deal with Royal Caribbean to build a 3rd cruise terminal on the island. To be completed in 2021, the new terminal will allow Royal Caribbean to sail their Oasis class ships from Galveston.

Oasis class ships are the largest cruise ships in the world, and currently you can only cruise on them from Florida (or overseas). Allure of the Seas will set sail from Galveston in November of 2021. This is huge news for Galveston and for cruise travelers. Having an Oasis class ship this close will eliminate the need for air travel to enjoy these amazing ships. Before sailing from Galveston, the Allure will be dry docked and under go a $170 million renovation.

Construction of the 3rd cruise terminal will likely result in other cruise lines choosing to sail from the island. Currently Carnival (three ships), Royal Caribbean (2 ships) and Disney sail from Galveston.
