UPDATES:
8:10 a.m.: I posted this in a separate thread, but wanted to make sure everyone saw it. Here's former Texas Tech quarterback Davis Webb on the hire of Matt Wells: "Huge fan of the hire. Wells is very well respected by coaches in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. He was the first person to offer me."

10:37 a.m.: We spoke with a source that indicated that at least one of the current Texas Tech assistant coaches prefers to stay on staff for the Red Raiders. He echoed Kirby Hocutt's message to the media that all of the assistants that want to stay will be given the opportunity to interview with the new head coach. Coach Wells is expected in Lubbock later today to meet with the team and begin recruiting, and this assistant expects to meet with Wells later today or tomorrow. - Clare

10:44 a.m.: Wells, Yost and Patterson will meet with the team at 5 p.m. today.

11:11 a.m.: Utah State athletic director John Hartwell shared a couple of interesting tidbits that should be of interest to Texas Tech fans in his press conference today. First, he said that Wells, and possibly even Yost and/or Patterson, will be "heavily involved" in Utah State's bowl preparations.

Additionally, Hartwell said that Wells told him he wants to take the Aggies' entire offensive staff with him to Lubbock. This lines up with what we passed along early yesterday afternoon.

11:13 a.m.: Missed this news from Hartwell's conference call. Utah State strength and conditioning coach Dave Scholz is expected to join Wells in Lubbock.

2:34 p.m.: FootballScoop.com is reporting that Wells intends to bring over DB's coach Julius Brown from Utah State, as well as DC Keith Patterson and his entire offensive staff. FootballScoop is also reporting Wells is interested in hiring current Purdue special teams coach Mark Tommerdahl. Tommerdahl has experience coaching in Texas, having been at Texas A&M for five years and TCU for three. Wells is awaiting a decision from Tommerdahl.

4 p.m.: From someone that worked with Tommerdahl at TCU: "Great guy and a great coach. Well respected in the state of Texas by high school coaches and a great recruiter."

SATURDAY

9:24 a.m.: Matt Wells has met with multiple assistant coaches from Kingsbury's 2018 staff since arriving in Lubbock. Several folks have asked about Emmett Jones... Given that Wells wants to bring his entire Utah State offensive staff over and the Aggies have two position coaches that work with receivers, it would seem unlikely that Jones would be retained. That could change, of course, but that's the way the situation is trending right now. Clay McGuire's past relationship with David Yost and experience coaching running backs and offensive line would seem to give him the best chance to stay on but, even then, you run into numbers problems if Wells is bringing over all of his offensive coaches.

SUNDAY

8:41 a.m.: It appears that Texas Tech let go of all of its remaining 2018 assistant coaches at some point yesterday, which helps explain the decommitment activity. Here's some good news for you all: Tommy McVay is expected to stay on.

2:30 p.m.: Sources tell us that Wells and his staff intend to spend the next two days meeting with the current players, hosting workouts and team lunches/dinners to establish relationships. From there, the coaches plan on hitting the road to recruit and conduct in-home visits with the current commitments and any new targets for the 2019 class. - Clare

MONDAY

10:01 a.m.: Former Texas Tech co-defensive coordinator Zac Spavital is expected to join his brother's staff at Texas State as defensive coordinator, per the Austin American-Statesman.

3:30 p.m.: Texas Tech's addition of Julius Brown as defensive backs coach is Twitter official:

TUESDAY

10:38 a.m.: Sources are telling me that DE Nelson Mbanasor is meeting with new Texas Tech head coach Matt Wells today. Mbanasor had announced his intention to transfer last month, but now he is not a lock to leave Lubbock with the coaching change. - Clare

10:43 a.m.: Texas Tech's addition of Steve Farmer as offensive line coach is Twitter official.

6:26 p.m.: Texas Tech's addition of Luke Wells as inside receivers/tight ends coach is Twitter official.

5:45 p.m.: Texas Tech has added inside receivers/tight ends coach Luke Wells to the official staff and added his bio page.

7:15 p.m.: Texas Tech has sent out a press release announcing the six additions to Wells' staff that we have detailed today. The release includes this quote from Wells:

“I’m really excited to get all these coaches here in Lubbock and invested in this program quickly,” Wells said. “The opportunity to hire these guys provides continuity, the same voice, and hopefully makes a more seamless transition to finishing strong in recruiting. They are all quality men and recruiters who will invest their time, effort and energy in our players so Texas Tech Football reaches the level Red Raider Nation deserves. We are all happy to be part of this community and look forward to great things ahead.”

THURSDAY

7:53 a.m.: Texas Tech outside receivers coach Jovon Bouknight was officially announced as a member of the staff yesterday afternoon. He is now Twitter official as well, having updated his social media presence to reflect his new position.
