I'm calling an audible for our trip to Gulf Shores. Still going to the beach but we originally planned to stop in New Orleans for 3 nights. I don't want to be in NO for 3 nights. So--we leave Round Rock on Wednesday, June 13th and don't check in to the house in Gulf Shores until Saturday. I'm thinking a big loop (I like to drive and look) thru the South. My thought is to drive to Memphis (need recs) then Oxford, Tupelo, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Talledega, Auburn, Montgomery, Selma, Pensacola (Naval Museum), then down to Gulf Shores.
I figure I'll get my fill of the South for sure, but I've never been through that country. I've got 3 boys all now in high school so I thought a tour of a few SEC campuses might be of interest.
We're all pretty good about recommendations here, so I wanted to throw it out there to see what I'd get back. I've done some preliminary looks, but we're pretty flexible for the first 3-4 days.
