Not hard to see why Mattix resigned. Our top general in Syria testified in a congressional hearing. He was asked if Trump had discussed his plans to withdraw or asked for his opinion. He said Trump had expressed a desire in the past to get out but not discussed his announcement or asked for advice. Unbelievable that a president wouldn't at least ask for opinions and advice in this circumstance. Not even to get an opinion from the man who will be responsible to plan the withdrawal. Even if he decides against the recommendations of his top military advisers, he should still seek their opinions. Is it arrogance, stupidity, or was it just a political decision to ignore military advice because he mistakenly thought it would be a popular move? To think he conceded to Putin's wishes without getting anything in return is incredible when coming from a "deal maker". Anyone surprised he hasn't been able to fill Mattix position with a permanent (LOL) replacement?
