If you can't tell it's a quiet night for me. Just me and my Chimay Grande Reserve. Much of the following is factual however I've also made some assumptions.
2012:
Reggie Davis - solid contributor for 4 years
Michael Starts - never played a snap to my knowledge; was OL we recruited to play DL
Dominique Wheeler - never contributed; left team prior to running out of eligibility
Clayton Nicholas - transferred
Le Darius Newbold - never contributed; left team before running out of eligibility
Trey Keenan - never contributed; left team before running out of eligibility
JJ Lollar - Kilff pulled scholarship
1 of 7 panned out
2013:
Devin Lauderdale - solid contributor for 3 years
Baylen Brown - solid contributor for 3 years
Davis Webb - transferred after 3 years
Gary Moore - WR we turned into our starting DE; odd to call someone a starter but then follow that up with not a real contributer
DJPB - WR we turned into our starting CB
Josh Outlaw - never contributed no longer on team
Dylan Cantrell - will be a very solid multi year starter
2 of 7 panned out
2014:
Nigel Bethel - headache but nonetheless no longer with team
Justin Stockton - very solid contributor and will be for entirety of career
Mahomes - stud
Derrick Dixon - solid in the little PT he got but no longer with team
Josh Keys - no longer with team
Ian Sadler - solid not spectacular and will be a contributor for 4 years
Bryan Daniels - who?
3 of 7 with a once in 10 years type player
2015:
Fehoko - contributor
Connor Dyer - hurt, yet to play
Dauphine - will be a contributor for 4 years
Akamnonu - will be a contributor for 4 years
Tony Brown - doesn't appear to have a bright future
Keke Coutee - 4 year contributor
Jamile Johnson - TBD
4 of 7 appear to be guys that will be players for us
The numbers:
- 21of 28 were HS offensive players (75%)
- 7 of 28 were HS defensive players (25%)
- 12 of 28 no longer on team (43%)
- 10 of 28 have become solid for us (36%)
- 9 of those 10 are on offensive side of ball (90%)
- 1 of the 10 are on the defensive side of the ball (10%)
Quick hits:
- As the years go on more of the higher rated recruits contribute (positive)
- more players have left the program all together than really contributed* (negative)
- we fail on both quantity and quality of defensive recruits (negative)
- there have been 5 DBs of which only 1 is still on the team and he's now a LB (negative)
- we try to make defensive players out of high school offensive players
The numbers are reversed. The 2012 class needed to have the most contributors but instead the 2015 has that distinction. We are where we are right now as a program in large part bc of the lack of production from our top recruits within our '12 and '13 classes. The opportunity to take a step forward was absolutely there but it never transpired. Is that on KK? Worth pointing out he also ran DSimmons out of here.
* just bc you play I don't consider you a contributor (Moore/Bray)
