It's definitely a new world when sharing On3 stuff is kosher, but here we are. An update on a Tech basketball offer.

Dawson Battie is currently the No. 21-ranked player in the 2027 On3 Industry Ranking. The 6-foot-8 forward is finishing his sophomore year at Dallas (TX) St. Mark’s and is playing this summer with the Southern Ties program on the Puma Pro16 U16 Circuit.

“I’m a really versatile player,” Battie told On3. “I try to take what the defense gives me. If it is a team that plays up on me, I’m going to go around them. If they try and sit back on me, I’m going to shoot it. I want to win, so whatever the coach needs me to do, I can do that. I’m playing with a lot of confidence now, especially with my shot. Even with a hand in my face, I know that I’ve worked on it, so I’m confident in my form.

“I watch a lot of Ron Holland with the Pistons. He went to Duncanville (TX) High, and I’ve been watching him since then. It’s just his motor, he plays with such a high motor, and that goes a long way.”

On3 was able to catch up with four-star Dawson Battie after a recent live viewing to discuss his recruitment.

“Right now, I have offers from Texas Tech, TCU, Cal-Berkley, SMU, Oklahoma State, and a couple more,” Battie said. “I have been to an SMU game, and don’t have any other visits set up yet.”

Battie recaps SMU visit

SMU: “The way they play defense, I didn’t know how much they value defense. They played Duke in the game that I went to, so that’s a team that made the Final Four. I feel like SMU played their hearts out, but my big takeaway from them, that game, was the intensity they gave on the defensive end.

“The atmosphere at the game was crazy, especially with Duke; the game was sold out. It was loud, and the fans were going crazy in there. There was a lot of smack talk, and it was hype. I enjoyed it.”

Dawson Battie discusses offers

TEXAS TECH: “My relationship is pretty good with them. My uncle (Tony Battie) went there, so it is kind of in the family, I guess you could say. I talk with K-Buff (Kellen Buffington), that is who offered me, and I’m just looking to build things further with them.”

TCU: “I’ve watched a couple of their games, they had a guard that really facilitated, I like how they played, fast and up-tempo. I haven’t talked with them in a little bit of time, but we have built a pretty good relationship.”

OKLAHOMA STATE: “They have a guy who went there from Killeen (TX) Ellison, Jamyron Keller is his name. I like the way he plays, his energy is crazy. I feel like that is kind of how they play, with a lot of energy, physically, and they play hard. Also, Justin McBride went there.”

CAL: “They are the most recent offer I got, I think that came a couple of weeks ago. They are a great school, a great, great school. My mom, of course, wants me to go to a good educational school, so that is certainly going to be taken into consideration when I make my decision.”

In his words

“We are hearing heavily from Texas,” Battie said. “Heavy on Texas, for sure, we’ve heard from Kentucky, I think Oklahoma here recently. Wichita State has reached out, which is where my brother just transferred to.

“I want to play for a coach who pushes me, where we have a trusting relationship, and he can get the best out of me. I’m looking for a good defensive school and a school that likes me for my game. A school that is going to recruit me for the playstyle they sees me being the best at, and not changing how I play.”
