Sometimes I like to look up things that happened on this day in history. Since today is the Ides of March, I thought I'd take a look, and there are some interesting ones besides Caesar's assassination, which I'll get to shortly.

Today is the 45th anniversary of the release of The Godfather (1972)

On this day in 1985, the first Internet domain name was registered to symbolics.com

In 1939 the Germans complete their occupation of Czeechoslovakia

March 15, 44 BC, Julius Caesar is famously assassinated by Roman senators. 536 years later on March 15, Odoacer was slain by Theoderic the Great. The reason I mention these together is that Caesar was the last leader of Rome before the emperors. Odoacer was the first King of Italy after the Roman Empire had been conquered in 476. So the last leader before and the first leader after the Roman Empire were both killed on the same day. Something I never knew.
