... I have been told that the Big 12 and ESPN have repeatedly told Texas Tech that they will send a "top three" SEC team to Lubbock for this season's Big 12-SEC Challenge game in late January.

... The Big 12-SEC matchups have not yet been set and the holdup is Kentucky and Kansas related. This has been an issue that everyone involved has been trying to work through for the last month or so. I don't expect the Wildcats to be sent to Lubbock but I wouldn't completely rule it out, either.

... My guess is this that the Red Raiders' opponent this season will come from a group that includes Florida, LSU, Auburn, Tennessee and Alabama with an outside shot at Kentucky. Those programs will be ranked or on the fringe of the rankings heading into next season. We will see. Nothing is set in stone yet.

... Texas Tech's basketball schedule is essentially done and will likely be released in the coming weeks. You can expect trips to Las Vegas, Chicago, Midland and New York in that order.

... Like last season, Chris Beard's guys will also likely scrimmage Houston and UTEP in mid to late October.

... Practice officially begins on Sept. 24. I'll pass along more as I find it out.
