Same deal as last night's recap with a team portion and a player by player.
Team Thoughts
Yes!!! August basketball get hyped!!! But for real, as far as exhibition games this one was as exciting as possible, there was emotion, chippiness, technical fouls, posters and Tech came out with the win. Can't complain at all.
Offensively there was a lot of good but also some things that won't work come conference play. Tech was the far more athletic team and used that to their advantage, getting to the lane and to the rim at will. As far as ball movement and things like that, wasn't great, but Tech did what they needed to do score, against this specific opponent, so can't fault that.
Defense, woof. Mega Bemax is a very talented team and had the size advantage down low, but they got far too many easy looks. This young team has 3 months until the season starts but they have a long ways to go defensively. Missing Moretti and Clarke didn't help here either, both veteran players who understand team defense.
Effort was good again for the 2nd game in a row, guys diving on the floor, crashing the boards and getting back on defense. Made some silly mistakes but generally they were good effort plays just poor ideas or execution.
Players
Jahmi'us Ramsey - Oh my. The 5-star freshman showed why he was so highly rated. He completely took over this game and kept Tech in it when they were down. Had the decisive 3 point play to put Tech up 4 in the last minute. Hit five 3-pointers. Got to the line (needs to work on FT's though). Defense was very good. He was an absolute star tonight.
Clarence Nadolny - With Moro leaving early Nadolny had his chance and he didn't disappoint. Lightning quick guard who showed good finishing ability and passing ability. Was under control and he will be a very, very good point guard in this league for a long time. In a game where nobody else on Tech was even a +5, Nadolny finished with a +21!!!
Terrence Shannon Jr - Was very active at both ends, supremely athletic and tough. Made a couple bad mistakes, fouling a 3 pointer and the late foul on the over the back, but those are correctable mistakes. Very impressive game overall though.
Davide Moretti - Really hope he's fine. Limped off early in the game and was on the sidelines the rest of the way.
TJ Holyfield - Much better than game 1. Active on defense and setting screens offensively. Missed a few bunnies at the rim and with those he easily could have finished in double figures.
Chris Clarke - Played only early in the first half, didn't do anything notable.
Kyler Edwards - Came out on fire with a couple 3's and drives to the rim. Forced some tough shots after that though. Still had a solid game and he's a guy you want with the ball taking a big shot.
Andrei Savrasov - Didn't play much but hustled when out there and played his role.
Avery Benson - Was solid all around, forced a few tough long 2's but another veteran guy you can throw out there who knows his role. He will be invaluable on this young team.
Tyreek Smith - Don't remember too much from Tyreek.
Russel Tchewa - Don't remember too much from Big Russ.
