Just a few quick thoughts from the weekend series sweep....

*I said going into the weekend that consistency was the biggest key for the Red Raiders to close out the season in neat fashion and win the Big 12. Well, they consistently hammered the ball and consistently pitched well over the weekend, scoring 25 runs in 3 games while limiting what isn't a bad KU offense at all to 8 runs. Consistency, folks.

*And this team looked exactly like they did when they were rolling in the middle of the season over the weekend. Sure, other than Krauth the Jayhwaks' pitching staff isn't anything to write home about, but Tech hitters got some good work in, especially with runners in scoring position. This team makes others pay dearly for pitching and fielding mistakes when they're playing well, which they did over the weekend.

*Hargrove, Gute, and Gardner all hit .455, and Neslony hit .385 this weekend. Just crushed the ball. This lineup continues to have different guys step up throughout different stretches of the season, and this foursome is absolutely pounding away right now.

*Gute specifically is ending the regular season on a high note down the stretch. He had 7 RBIs and a slugging percentage of 1.182 with 2 homers against KU.

*The pitching staff only gave up 8 runs over 3 games, with 5 of the 8 arms from the weekend having a 1.8 era or less. The staff needed another solid weekend, and they absolutely had that.

*What else can you say about Davis Martin at this point? He had a 1.8 ERA on Friday night, but more importantly, he earned another win, making himself the only 8-0 freshman in the entire country. He's also pitched the most innings of any other arm on the entire Tech staff. Tech has won every Friday night contest in Big 12 play this year, and a lot of that has to do with him. Martin is having a special, special year.

*So, Tech's magic numbers for a Big 12 crown break down like this: 1 more win guarantees they'll no less than tie for it, and 2 wins guarantees them the outright championship.

*Also remember that OSU and TCU have 6 conference games left while Tech only has 3. OSU hosts OU this weekend while TCU heads to Baylor. Neither one can falter at this point or Tech can wrap things up.

*As for postseason play, Tech sits great as of today to earn a national top 8 seed. They're one of the only great teams outside of SEC and ACC country this year, and some would argue they are the only great team outside those two conferences. Right now, it's almost a guarantee that Tech will host both a regional and super regional in Lubbock as long as they don't falter.

*Buckle up and enjoy the ride, folks. This is a special season to be cherished.
