This week several key Red Raiders will be going to the Penn Relays Carnival - the mammoth track meet that makes even the Texas Relays look small by comparison. I have been trying to find the Tech entries on the Penn Relays website and finally figured out that you have to look at each event individually to find entries - there is no central list. Therefore, the list I am providing here may be woefully short of containing all of the Red Raiders who will compete.

In the entries I did find, it appears that is concentrating almost exclusively on runners - only one field event entry and that entry is a runner/field event person who would be there anyway to run on the 4X400 (Kelsey Lloyd). Not a lot of events entered that are not also events that will be contested at conference and nationals - with 3 notable exceptions, the women's and men's Distance Medley Relays and the Men's shuttle hurdle relay.

Here are the entries I identified (I have marked with an astesisk the ones who have NOT yet qualified for regionals in that event):

Thursday
Women's Distance Relay - not as strong w/ Sally graduated, but still one of the best in the country

Men's Steeplechase - Gilbert Limo

Women's 4X100 heats (finals on Saturday)

Women's 400H heats - Sandra Iwunze, Kelsey Lloyd* (finals on Saturday)

Women's 4X400

Women's 10K - Michelle Guzman*

Friday
Men's 400H heats - Jamele Mason, Brandon Tucker* (finals on Saturday)

Men's shuttle hurdle relay - Tech is running this to highlight the great Tech hurdlers. The relay will no doubt have Jamele, Brandon, Omo, and I guess probably Nathan Lowry.

MEn's 110H heats - Omo, Jamele (finals on Saturday)

Men's 100 - Julius Walker* (finals on Saturday)

Women's 100 - Terra Evans (finals on Saturday)

Men's Distance Medley Relay - not sure exactly why Tech is running this - probably to give people like Cory Higgins and Zach Dawson experience in a big-time setting

Men's 4X400 heats - unlike Texas Relays, every team has to run in the heats to go to the finals (at TR, Tech got a free pass into the Invitational 4X400 finals) AND unlike TR, all college teams compete against each other in one division. Gutless UT changed that a few years ago then they got tired of little ol' schools like ACU, South Plains, Barton County and in those days, Blinn, Ranger, and the like coming to Austin and kicking their ass, so they put those schools in the "college" division and protected their puny Longhorn asses from those "intimidating" little schools (hard to see where I stand on that, huh?.

Women's High jump - Kelsey Lloyd (only field event, but Kelsey is running in at least 2 events as well)

Like I said, I could have easily overlooked several Tech entries. I will also keep looking for the entries to the Sooner Invitational, where many of the other Red Raiders will compete this weekend. That will give me a better idea of who is staying home completely this weekend and training through. After this weekend, there is only one more meet on the schedule before the conference and that is the home twilight meet on May 7, when everybody competes.
