A BILL TO FUND THE PURCHASE AND CARE OF A FOX
WHEREAS, one or more foxes have resided in Jones AT&T Stadium going back to at least the mid-2000s, and
WHEREAS, in 2013 against TCU and 2017 against Arizona State, a fox emerged on the field of play during a home football game and both times Texas Tech achieved victory, and
WHEREAS, in 2018 a fox was spotted on the TCU campus the day of the Texas Tech vs TCU football game, and that game also resulted in a Texas Tech victory, and
WHEREAS, the Texas Tech Rally Fox is obviously a harbinger of good fortune and victory for the Red Raiders, and
WHEREAS, a fox's natural methods of hunting and survival could easily lead one to describe them as Red Raiders, and
WHEREAS, the Texas Tech students need a new tradition to rally behind and bring renewed spirit and enthusiasm to all Texas Tech sporting events, and
WHEREAS, it is not uncommon for universities to create a secondary mascot, like the War Eagle at Auburn University, with no obvious connection to the primary mascot, and
THEREFORE BE IT ENACTED that an endowment fund be created to purchase a domesticated fox to serve as a secondary mascot, goodwill ambassador, and spirit animal of Red Raiders everywhere.
Section 1. A new student spirit organization shall be created to care for the fox.
Section 2. A contest shall be conducted to name the fox and all its successors with submissions accepted from students, alumni, and the general public.
Section 3. An enclosure shall be constructed to domicile the fox in either the new expansion of the Ranching Heritage Center or the renovations of the South End Zone of Jones AT&T Stadium. This will allow the public to visit the fox year-round.
Section 4. The fox will be taken to schools and other public events to interact with young and old and grow the brand and mission of Texas Tech University.
Section 5. Once per sporting event, at a time designed to provide maximum momentum boost for the Red Raiders, "What Does the Fox Say" by Ylvis will be played, providing an explosive burst of energy and enthusiasm from the students and spectators.
