Sonny Dykes was Spikes son. Never on Spike Staff. That was Rick Dykes.

It was Leach that brought Sonny to Tech. Leach was at OU/ Sonny at Kentucty where they had worked together as I recall.
He then went one state over to La tech and took them to bowls.

Went to power 5 at Calif and beat TEXAS U. TWICE, who has done that?

Hard to be a head coach in Calif at that nut school. Adviser now to TCU and Patterson now. They are looking at him as a possible head man at TCU if Patterson goes to AM>

He checks all the boxes, all of them. His wife and he married while at Tech.

The wife's are the key at Lubbock and recruiting.

Now when Spike was there, he had to play for their money.

They played at Penn St. Ohio State, Tenn. Geo. Neb. Ou...now which ones of those would Leach have one, not one!!

When Leach came in they increased his budget 300 percent over Spike. Spike did more with less than any one Loved by everyone.

But this is Sonny, not Spike and he is a good man that loves tech and Lubbock and is the right age at 47 and coached in Lubbock and at Kentucky, La Tech and U of Calif. now TCU
This is the obvious choice to me. I dont know what history you are looking at but re read all this and see if you then agree. Bring Sonny Cumbie back too, or Littrel, Keep Gibbs or bring Rufifn back.
These other coachs just come and go, wives dont like west texas.

The thing we have to overcome is Distance. It is 335 miles from De Sota etc. WE need to make it where players families can get here cheap and easy Buses, certain hotel rooms. Six TCU player had father that played at tech.

If I lived in dFw, I would go to TCU too, to avoid the drive. That is reality. So fix that or recruit West Texas players. The 11 Am games are killing us because of the long drives,,,my 3 cents...hubcity.
