UNT coach Tony Benford said Monday following his weekly radio show Frazier’s MRI on Friday revealed no serious damage to his knee.
Frazier suffered some minor bumps and bruises after being involved in a car wreck before the Mean Green’s 79-68 loss.
Frazier was not expected to play against MTSU, but he was slated to be on the bench with the rest of UNT’s injured players. When asked after the game where Frazier was, Benford indicated he did not know why the senior wasn’t at the Super Pit.
“I will check and find out,” Benford said.
UNT announced through a university spokesman a short time later Frazier was involved in a car crash before the game.
Frazier was taken to Denton Presbyterian Hospital.
Benford said Monday he was aware of Frazier’s whereabouts but did not want to disclose them following the crash.
A Denton police spokesman said Monday that Frazier was involved in a crash at 709 Sunset St., near Domino’s Pizza on West University Drive about 12:24 p.m. No injuries initially were reported.
UNT’s game against MTSU tipped off at 2 p.m.
Benford said Monday following his weekly radio show Frazier is fine following the crash, and his MRI didn’t reveal any problems in his knee.
“He has to get some treatment,” Benford said. “His MRI was fine. We will see how he will deal with pain. He is just dealing with soreness from the accident.”
UNT fell to 6-10 overall and 0-4 in Conference USA play with the loss, the Mean Green’s fifth straight setback.
UNT has a week off before traveling to Rice on Saturday. The Mean Green are hoping to have Frazier and Deckie Johnson back for their game against the Owls.
Johnson is battling hip issues and has missed four of UNT’s past six games.
Johnson is averaging 9.6 points per game, while Frazier has scored 8.0 points per game in four appearances with the Mean Green since becoming eligible at the semester break. Frazier started his career at SMU.
“We hope to get Keith and Deckie back this week,” Benford said. “It will help us to get them back. The schedule comes back around, but we have to win games now.”
