So, I was listening to Sirius XM and they were talking about signing day and they had some interesting points, which I hadn't considered, and it also had me thinking about greater impacts. Curious on yalls thoughts and how this plays out (compared to hoops)... and any other ways this is additionally interesting.
1) The obvious: If a committed kid doesn't sign, what are the implications? At this point, does the committed school need to consider looking around?
2) Are all recruits able to sign early? Or does the school also have to provide them the paperwork? Consider a situation where a kid wants to sign early, but the school is like "Nah, better wait..." Think about it. It's not uncommon for a school to get a late commit from a better prospect and tell the lower kid to look around. So, the 3* kid (per say) can sign with Florida in December, and not put his offer at risk! Very interesting dynamic at play here.
3) We've already got precedent where a school will release a kid from the LOI if a position coach leaves immediately after NSD. How does that impact early signing, since there will definitely be more coach movement throughout January? How many kids will sign and then want to be released because the position coach moves on?
4) If a 4/5* kid who is committed to a "Blue Blood" doesn't sign early... what is the social media/fan impact? While I think it's dumb for a kid to change his mind because of some tweets, it's certainly possible to see the crazy fans start @ing players and harrassing them "Why aren't you signing? Are you not committed? What's wrong?" and causes the kid to rethink things. While silly in principle, it's absolutely possible in real life.
