I just saw the Sir Nicolas Winton died in England at 106. He was the son of German Jews whose parents moved to London prior to WWII.
Prior to England declaring war in 1939, Winton had been in Prague arranging for children to be shipped to London via train, thus saving hundreds of lives of children. The day England declared was on Germany, he was in the process of shipping out an additional 250 children, but the borders had already closed and the children were never heard from again.
And he did all of this without fanfare. His wife was not even aware of it until 2003 when she was going through some boxes in the attic.
He was a very modest and humble gentleman. God rest his soul.
