LUBBOCK, Texas – Round two of the Big 12 fight for No. 25 Texas Tech brings No. 6 Kansas into Lubbock this weekend for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday at the United Supermarkets Arena.

The Red Raiders (10-3, 0-1 Big 12) are coming off a 51-47 loss at No. 11 Iowa State on Wednesday, while the Jayhawks (12-1, 1-0 Big 12) extended an eight-game winning streak with a 74-63 victory at Oklahoma State on Tuesday in Stillwater. TTU is currently 8-0 at home this season and KU is 2-0 in true road games.

Tech played its game against Iowa State with only seven available players due to a combination of injuries along with health and safety protocols. Information regarding availability will not be announced until Saturday.

The matchup is one that features one of the top defenses in the conference and the top offense with the Red Raiders limiting opponents to only 37.1 percent shooting which ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 and eighth nationally. ISU shot only 30.6 percent on Wednesday to become the eighth team to shoot under 40 percent against Tech this season. KU leads the Big 12 by shooting 50.7 percent from the field and scoring 84.3 points per game.

The Red Raiders have held seven opponents under 60 points and is ninth nationally by limiting teams to only 57.6 points per game. Tech is currently fifth nationally with a 11.4 rebounding advantage and 13th with an 18.2 scoring margin. Kansas has scored 70 or more in all 13 of their games this season, including seven games of 75 or more. The Red Raiders have limited their last three opponents under 55 points.

UP NEXT
Texas Tech will return with three games next week, starting at No. 1 Baylor on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Waco before hosting Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. on Thursday in a rescheduled game. The Red Raiders finish off the week at Kansas State on at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 15 in Manhattan, Kansas.

SERIES HISTORY
Kansas has won four straight over the Red Raiders and own a 39-6 advantage in the all-time series. The Jayhawks have swept Tech the past two seasons after the Red Raiders ran away with a 91-62 win on Feb. 23, 2019 in a home win. KU had won 16 straight games in the series before Tech secured an 85-73 road win in Lawrence on Jan. 2, 2018. The Jayhawks won 58-57 in Lubbock last season as the No. 5-ranked team in the nation. Terrence Shannon, Jr. had 20 points and nine rebounds in the loss to lead the Red Raiders, while Ochai Agbaji returns to Lubbock after going for 23 points against Tech last season. In Lawrence, KU won 67-61 with Kevin McCullar going for 12 points and nine rebounds and Marcus Santos-Silva adding 12 points and eight rebounds.

TECH VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
Tech is 1-2 against ranked opponents this season after knocking off No. 13 Tennessee at the Jimmy V Classic but falling at No. 11 Iowa State to open Big 12 play after a 69-55 loss to No. 5 Gonzaga in the Jerry Colangelo Classic. As a program, Tech is 62-217 all-time against ranked opponents after going 16-24 in the previous five seasons. The Red Raiders were 3-8 in the 2020-21 season against ranked teams with two wins over Texas (No. 4 and No. 14) and a home win over Oklahoma which was at No. 9.

RED RAIDERS vs. TOP-10 OPPONENTS
Tech went 2-4 against top-10 opponents last season with a 79-77 road win over Texas in Austin on Jan. 13, 2021 before knocking off No. 9 Oklahoma with a 57-52 win in Lubbock on Feb. 1, 2021. The Red Raiders dropped their conference opener last season to No. 5 Kansas at home and fell twice to Baylor before No. 10 Arkansas topped them in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Tech has 25 wins over top-10 teams in program history.

KANSAS JAYHAWK REPORT
The Jayhawks are on an eight-game winning streak after opening conference play with a win at Oklahoma State on Tuesday. Ochai Agbaji leads KU with 20.2 points per game, while Christian Braun is scoring 16.8 points per game to go along with 6.2 rebounds per game and 42 total assists. Remy Martin is at 10.4 points per game to give the Jayhawks three double-figure scorers. David McCormack is coming off a 17 point, 15 rebound performance against the Cowboys where he had seven offensive rebounds and is now averaging 9.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per game. A senior from Virginia, McCormack played as a reserve for the first time this season in his double-double game against OSU. Jalen Wilson added 15 rebounds in the game for the Jayhawks who had a 50-36 rebounding advantage over the Cowboys. A Denton, Texas native, Wilson is averaging 6.8 rebounds and 5.5 points per game. He recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Tech last season in Lawrence.

The Jayhawks will host their first Big 12 game of the season on Tuesday against No. 11 Iowa State at the Allen Field House in Lawrence.
