Texas History Roadtrip

I’m looking for ideas to take my 4th-grade son to see important historical places in Texas. I’m taking him to see the Alamo and stay at the Menger Hotel, stopping at Fort Parker on the way from Tyler and probably hitting up the San Jacinto Battlefield on the way home.

Any other suggestions to help encourage a newfound curiosity about history for a kid?
