After the UCF game I was really starting to question the ceiling of a GM coached team because of just how bad our defense was. Last year we were 10th in the Big 12 and through half of this year we might have been even worse.
Then something happened. We have turned in to a VERY good defensive team. We are 5th in the conference in defense and getting better every game.
It's odd because it doesn't feel scheme related. Mostly just players really amping up their intensity and learning from mistakes.
In the past I felt like point differential was a pretty good marker for how a team is playing if it's playing in a good league. A double digit differential was pretty good. Right now we are over a 16.00 point differential. That's as good as we have had in the last few years. Granted....I'm not sure the conference schedule is as tough as it was when it was a 10 team round robin but still it's a very competitive league.
In the post game the OK State coach said we had a top 10 defense.
Such a dramatic difference. Really fun to watch.
