In what appears to be a move to counteract missing out on two games at Cal due to weather, Tim Tadlock and the Red Raiders have added a two game set with Top 10 ranked Florida State in Tallahasee next Tuesday.
Here's the release:
TEXAS TECH ADDS TWO-GAME SERIES AT FLORIDA STATE
Red Raiders will travel to Tallahassee to face No. 8 Florida State on April 5-6
LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech head coach Tim Tadlock announced changes to the 2016 schedule Tuesday as the Red Raiders have added a two-game series on April 5-6 at No. 8 Florida State.
The Red Raiders were originally scheduled to face Abilene Christian next Tuesday at Security Bank Ballpark in Midland but will instead travel to Tallahassee for what will be the first ever meeting between Tech and Florida State.
In order to make room on its schedule, Tech and Abilene Christian have mutually agreed to reschedule their neutral-site contest for April 27 in Midland.
“We appreciate the understanding of Abilene Christian and the Midland RockHounds as we worked to take advantage of this unique opportunity to play a highly ranked non-conference opponent,” Tadlock said. “We are looking forward to the challenge of going on the road to face a top-10 team. We can’t thank our administration enough for their support in scheduling this series.”
The Red Raiders now boast 55 games on their schedule with the addition of the Florida State series. The two-game set against the Seminoles replaces a pair of cancellations from Tech’s trip to then-No.9 California earlier this season.
The April 27 contest in Midland, meanwhile, will mark the third-straight season where Texas Tech has played a neutral-site contest in the Permian Basin. The Red Raiders have averaged over 4,000 fans in those two games after defeating New Mexico, 6-2, in 2014 and ACU, 10-2, a year ago.
“The Midland and Odessa communities are great supporters of Red Raider Baseball,” Tadlock said. “We’re looking forward to playing in the Permian Basin later this season.”
Tech and ACU will still meet for the first time this season on April 26 in their regularly-scheduled game in Abilene. First pitch for that contest is slated for 6:30 p.m. from Crutcher Scott Field.
