At first I didnt understand how that is possible. We graduate 4x the student they do per year and we have for the last 25 years.
Then the broadcast revealed that Bob Schollmaier, who is retired CEO of Alcon, fronted most of the money. One big donor who wants to make their athletic program great. The arena is now named after him. That's it, thats all it takes, just one guy. We have great donors who give to the Business school and Petro Engineering (which isnt a bad thing), but not to Athletics.
Joe Girardi, the damn Yankees manager, and his daughter were sitting courtside at TCU game last night because his daughter is looking at them for college. Why? because they are on the big time scene as a football program. Tuition is double at TCU than it is at Tech and you are getting by forbes and other sources, a lessor degree. It is fact that Tech grads come out earning more. No reason anyone should want to go to TCU over us.
There was a study that when FSU and BAMA won their first and most recent Nat'l titles applications to their school elevated 15%. I bet right now Clemson is experiencing same thing. All this resulting in more money for your school.
Whats my point:
1. All it takes is ONE huge doner. And albeit, im talking HUGE, I haven't seen ours.
2. I hate TCU and Aggie with all my heart but one thing is fact, their fans show up and GIVE.
3. If we want to compete we gotta do the same. And were not getting it done. We struggle to get indoor $40 mil indoor facility but they're are building $70 mil bball Arenas. Also, this is right after a brand new football stadium. They're going Hollywood attracting students with their athletics (NOT academics), we're sitting on our asses.
4. I think Kirby Hocutt is best AD in nation. bet he cant do everything.
Disclosure: I dont want hear "wheres your money" because i dont have that type of money. I do donate, probably pennies on the dollar to most of yall. but thats not answering the issue.
If the excuse is because they are a private school is the answer then we are forever screwed.
