Coach Beard told us today that Brian Burg has been promoted with coach Ogden’s departure and hunch taking two assistants. He congratulated Ogden and was very cool happy for him. He said coach Sean Sutton and the program are in talks to keep him here in Lubbock and that he’s interested in staying.
Duke has been confirmed on the schedule. It’s looking like a date close to Christmas and of course at MSG. Said coach K only plays good teams so that tells you where Tech basketball sits.
Coliseum game is also confirmed. Opponent is TBD but Beard wants someone with a connection to the SWC once again or a local Texas school to get some of their fan base here in LBK as well.
There’s one spot left to fill on the staff but Beard said he’s looking into finding someone within a couple of weeks.
And he still has yet to repair his ACL. Said the team, staff and players come first until he has time in the summer to get it fixed.

He said all of his players have dream goals and one of his jobs as a coach/mentor is to help them get there and he did that with Zhaire. His goal was the NBA and he reached it sooner than they thought. Said having a one-and-done is an extreme positive and shows how this program is progressing. He’s hoping to have that shown in recruiting, on the court and throughout the team moving forward with Z reaching his goal after being a Red Raider.
