Just watched the All-22 in the UNC-SCar game...notes on Hughes as follows.
plus:
-excellent processor of stunts, when to help LG
-Good job defending speed rush techniques, has hand strength and lateral agility to throw DE off course
This rep was a good one, and while the play became a mess, Hughes did his job. Was able to keep good leverage against the DE using a speed technique and was able to pretty much make him a non-factor on the play.
minus:
-relatively slow pass set from 2pt stance
-beaten by power
-marginal anchor ability
This sack he gave up was a tough one, got distracted and over helped, abandoning his assignment. Might've thought he had running back help but he didn't. You can see his helmet stripe turn.
The second sack he allowed, he got hit with a counter move from the DE on a rep that started with what was seen as a strength. Nice play by the DE here but you want him to be able to have the COD ability to turn there.
This is an example of the anchor against power. Not his best rep but something that can be developed a bit.
Massive fan of the pickup as a depth piece for this coming season. Cannot have enough of that. Believe it's a PWO addition at right tackle, so he will be pushing Buchanan for PT, a piece that wasn't really on the roster. Think you can win with him in a spot start/depth scenario, which is what you needed at RT.
