Just a few thoughts on Tech's newest blue chip commit...
*While you've steadily added some solid pieces for the 2018 class over the last three months, you have yet to land a big trophy fish like this. Marshall is a big time player, and you'll turn some heads by landing him.
*As a player, he's exactly what I think Brandon Jones is looking for in a guard: A physical mauler. Marshall is built like a vault at 6-3, 350, and he's strong as a bull.
*At Rivals camp in Dallas in the spring, he was absolutely dominant in one on ones, and he ultimately won the OL MVP on the day. He showed great vice grip hands to go along with some major strength, as once he got locked up on a defender, it was game over. That's not something you can teach a player.
*On top of that, he's surprisingly fleet footed and can move with all that weight. He's for sure in the dancing bear category.
*All that to say it's very clear that Coach Jones wants his run game to get a whole lot more physical moving forward. He's hammered away at that with his current players over the last 6 months, and now he's trying to find guys that are built to do that as high school prospects.
*Big kudos to Coach Jones for landing Marshall, too. I think his current group of O-linemen have already come to be big fans of his, both as a technician of a coach and a guy who was exactly on their shoes a decade ago. Think that's going to continue to pay off in recruiting as it has with Marshall and the rest of the OL class already.
*Now you've got four O-line commits. So the question is whether you're done or will continue to add. I think you will add at least another, as you still need depth with Johnson and Dulaney simply being stop gaps, graduating a couple guys in the next two years. On top of that, I'm sure Jones wants to add his kind of players to his unit. Regardless, Tech's doing a fantastic job of adding numbers in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
