So...half the office is out at a conference, so I decided to look at some numbers. I am not a numbers cruncher, but I decided I would like to see how our defensive recruiting (spurred on by the recent decommit) stacked up against: A) Top 15 recruiting schools and B) Big 12 schools

I think it important to see where the top schools put their money and effort. After all, if we want to be good, it seems like looking at schools that ARE good would be a decent measure. Because Top 5 is a little lofty, I went with Top 15.

Below are the Top 15 schools as of now, listed with their total number of defensive recruits vs their total number of recruits....I included "athletes" in this scenario because most end up on defense:

Georgia - 11 / 22
Ohio St - 13 / 23
UT - 10 / 22
Penn ST - 11 / 23
Miami - 7 / 20
OU - 14 / 23
Notre Dame - 13 / 22
Auburn - 13 - 22
LSU - 12 / 22
Bama - 12 / 18
Wash - 8 / 19
Clemson - 8 / 15
USC - 9 / 13
Michigan - 11 / 20
Oregon - 10 / 20

12 of the 15 filled their classes with at least 50% defensive players

Big 12 Numbers:

UT - 10 / 22
OU - 14 / 23
KU - 11 / 18
KSU - 11 / 18
WVU - 10 / 22
TCU - 9 / 20
BU - 6 / 23
OSU - 12 / 23
ISU - 11 / 20

TEXAS TECH - 3 / 15

We have dropped to #74 in our recruiting ranking...which is fine...whatever. But it should be noted that EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL in front of Tech....from #74 to #1 has at least twice as many recruits on defense as we do.

As I have said before, I hope that Gibbs pulls a recruiting rabbit out of his butt, I really do. But at some point Tech has to ask itself, is this even remotely acceptable??
