The Burbs of Houston
Drove up Wednesday morning with my son who is an incoming freshman in the Rawls College of Business. A couple quick observations:

  • The drive wasn't as bad as it was when i was there in the late 80's. Maybe more highways? 8:30 minutes from the Overton to our driveway in Missouri City, TX, which is a southwest suburb of Houston. Drove 75-80 and stopped 3 times.
  • The dorms are unbelievable now. Look like mini-condos.
  • The food choices for these kids blow away what I had as options.
  • The campus has never looked more beautiful. We have an amazing looking university.
  • Female talent is as strong as ever.
  • The orientation was very organized. Props to the university for coordinating all the parents and students.
  • Rawls college is impressive. They don't play around. One of the advisors mentioned that 22% of the college last year didn't make the necessary grades (2.75 I believe), and would be transferring out to another college.
  • The support staff and options for students is unbelievable. Advisors, tutors, study halls, etc. It seems as if it is really hard not to succeed in this environment.
  • Lots of positive buzz and energy on campus. You can feel it from all the successes we are having and will continue to have.

Wow- to be a student at Tech today. What an amazing place to go to college. We have an outstanding university. As my wife said to me, who graduated from an almost Ivy top 20 University in the US, "I am impressed with everything here at Tech. Tech doesn't get the recognition it should." Guns Up.

Just thought I would share with the RRS family...
