I recently checked out the new performance center at SMU and it’s pretty impressive. Sonny is doing a really good job at that program from coaching to recruiting to uniforms.
I remember when we were looking for a coach he had just taken the Cal job and did alright there. Ultimately he had too many issues the administration, and it just wasn’t a good fit. SMU has had a good start to their season and I’m interested to see how they perform against TCU. I don’t think they will win but they thumped UNT a couple weeks ago and it could be a competitive game.
If Sonny is able to get them to the top of their conference over the next few years he would definitely be a great option here and a great story given his Dad coached here as well. Wells has at least 3 years to show us what he can do here and if it doesn’t work out then Sonny would seem to be a great fit down the line.
