AMARILLO, Texas (AP) - A Texas high school football player is in a medically induced coma after he suffered a blow to the head during a game in the Panhandle.
Perryton High School junior Chris Leanos was being treated Saturday at an Amarillo hospital after collapsing on the field Thursday night at Bushland High, west of Amarillo.
The Amarillo Globe-News reports Leanos walked off the field on his own power but collapsed again on the sideline.
He underwent surgery Friday for a head injury.
Both schools are working to collect donations for the Leanos family to offset medical expenses.
