Former Chairman of the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Texas Tech University - Dr. Winkler passed away on Saturday. "Wink" as he was more widely known was heavily involved with the development of petroleum engineering students for more than 40 years. Any degree of success we have had in our careers is in part due to the early guidance provided by Wink.
I was very fortunate to have met him while still in high school- he convinced me to enter the PE program at a time when oil was $3/bbl and very few had even heard of petroleum engineering. Lucky for me! I was also fortunate to have him attend the opening ceremony for the Petroleum Engineering Research Building so that I could publicly acknowledge his role in my life and how the building donation was small payment for the many lessons he had bestowed on so many students through the years.
We all know he is happy today to have joined his beloved wife again.
Thank you- Wink
