Wanted to share some stats I found interesting about Tech’s newest assistant head coach/linebackers. First of all he’s been a winner everywhere he’s gone lately. Since 2007...
2007 (UConn DC) 9-4
2008 (UConn DC) 8-5
2009 (UConn DC) 8-5
2010 (UConn DC) 8-5
2011 (FIU DC) 8-5
2012 (FIU DC) 3-9***
2013 (Utah State DC) 9-5 (Matt Wells HC)
2014 (Utah State DC) 10-4 (Matt Wells HC)
2015 (Houston DC) 13-1
2016 (Houston DC) 9-4
2017 (Texas DC) 7-6
2018 (Texas DC) 10-4
2019 (Texas DC) 8-5
So he’s only been a part of one losing season in the last 13 seasons of being a defensive coordinator. Maybe it means something, maybe not.
The other thing I wanted to focus on was opponents points per game in Year 1 of his new stops.
2017 Texas - 21.2 points per game (29th in country)
2015 Houston - 20.7 points per game (21st in country)
2013 Utah State - 17.1 points per game (7th in country)
2011 FIU - 19.5 points per game (14th in country)
2005 UConn* - 19.2 points per game (21st in country)
*He was at UConn from 1999-2010, but 2005 was his first year as defensive coordinator.
So a top 30 scoring defense in every one of his last 5 stops, including at powerhouse schools such as UConn, FIU and Utah State.
