This is going to actually be brief because I'm still despondent over the result yesterday, and I don't want to get into a rant.

I was really pleased to see Texas Tech play 39, 40 minutes of winning basketball. If ISU is the third best team in the country, Texas Tech made them look more pedestrian for 37 or 38 minutes.

I know most people don't want to hear this, but I thought the officiating was egregious. If someone didn't watch the game and just looked at the box score, they could come away thinking the game was called pretty evenly due to the free throws and total fouls - but that is wholly misleading. ISU was called for 19 fouls and committed 38 (ok it may not have been 38, I'm using hyperbole, but it was at least 29 or 72). In a one point OT game, everything needs to come together to get a win. It all came together for Iowa State and a huge part of that was all the fouling they did that was not called. That's just how it was yesterday.

Also if a person missed the game and only looked at the box score, they would see Tech was 19-24 from the line and think that's pretty good as a team. It is pretty good as a team, but what the box score doesn't show is the timeliness of the misses. Tech missed crucial free throws at critical times and it cost them. You want to win in March then make your crunch time free throws.

Personally, I'm disappointed Tech is winless at home. One game they sleptwalk through, which I'm still confounded by (I was mad, now I'm just confounded). On January 12, Texas Tech is barely a tourney team. To paraphrase an infamous past thread I'll say that Texas Tech has some work to do to make the tournament, and they can start by beating good teams at home.

That game felt like a tourney game to me, and I was overall fairly pleased with Tech's play. Sadly the few minutes of losing basketball that they played came at a bad time and they lost. Better luck next time.
