I was watching OSU storm back after being down 18 and I said to Mary, "Oh man, are we witnessing SFA again?" Someone can check the date but seems like around 2004 that Texas Tech had SFA down 18 in the second half, at home, and lost. At least this time Tech won. Okay I wasn't overly worried about winning but I was definitely unhappy with some of the offensive decisions Tech made during the Cowboy run. In the end OSU could not break 55 points, and not very many teams are going to lose to a team that scores 54 points.

Really in the ebb and flow of a basketball game, Texas Tech ended up winning pretty handily. OSU made a terrific run, but the Red Raiders had the wherewithal to take a deep breath and execute a couple of possessions and put the game away.

I'm still not liking all the times Elijah Hawkins ends up with the ball and 3 seconds on the shot clock. I mean I like it when those shots go in, but those shots never look good and my faith that he can hit any given 19 footer is fairly low. The one of those he did hit yesterday was a double clutch prayer. I think a lot of this is because Tech still stands around a little on offense. We have not really seen it yet, but at some point a team is going to lay way off him and just let him shoot while the defense focuses on the other four guys.

Is anyone still sleeping on Christian Anderson? He led the team in minutes yesterday and scored nine points on four shots. Nine is not a lot of points, but yesterday it was good for second on the team (Darrion Williams also nine, Chance McMillian 14). Speaking of Williams, is that his second ankle this season? Ugh.

We've banged on this team for the timeliness of their missed free throws, but yesterday they just struggled all game. 12-21 will cost you a game sometime but not against OSU yesterday. I don't imagine they will have a worse game from the stripe the rest of the season, or at least I hope they don't.

All this aside, I am not sure Texas Tech wins this game three weeks ago. It's not much to hang your hat on beating sad sack OSU at home by 10, but I really do wonder if they would have won this game on January 1. Cowboys just do not have a roster full of Big 12 basketball players, they just don't. I have not seen Colorado play but they are winless and I just wonder how far they are away from OSU level players.

We're eight games into the season and Texas Tech is in a really good position. 6-2 puts them alone in 4th place, a full game up on Kansas and only 1 game out of 2nd. Did you know Tech has the second longest active winning streak in the conference? Houston has ripped off 12 straight and Tech has won 4 straight. I mention all this because the Red Raiders need to take care of business Wednesday night against TCU - there is already a clear division in conference play, with 9 teams having a winning record and 7 teams not. Tech must take care of business against those second division teams, period. Utah, TCU, UC, ASU, OSU, KSU, and CU.

Lot of games left but look at these home games:
TCU on Wednesday
Baylor February 1
ASU 2/12
WVU 2/22
UH 2/24
CU 3/5

That's it, that's the remaining home games. Need to take care of business and stay focused - tourney level teams do not lose at home to TCU, ASU, Colorado. So win those, and then get a couple quality wins against West Virginia and Houston. From here on out really Texas Tech is playing for seeding. Win most of your home games and win the road games you should win, and if you can get an extra road game then perfect.
