question on trees and property line

In my back yard my neighbor has two crab apple trees that drop huge crab apples into my backyard.I can't mow without picking up at least 10 pounds of these things. Since the branches are on my property side do I have the right to cut the branches? Should I talk to them and tell them that I'm going to have it trimmed or just do it.
