Many teams are starting to find their QB commits for the class of 2022 and Texas Tech is expected to do the same soon. Below is a list of QBs who the coaches are following on Twitter. I left off a few players who many Tech coaches are following but are likely to end up elsewhere, like Gavin Wimsatt, Connor Weigman, Cade Klubnik, and Quinn Ewers.
The only QB listed on here who is followed by Coach Matt Wells. Last season he threw for 2422 yards, 27 TDs, 5 INTs, 125 rushing yards, and 1 TD for Lone Star HS. As a Sophomore, he threw for 4538 yards, 50 TDs, and 7 INTs. He holds offers from Oklahoma St, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, Houston, Utah, Nevada, UNT, and Tulsa. Rangel is followed by 4 coaches - Cumbie, Wells, Pehrson, & Smith.
Locke is a shorter prospect but has put up big numbers and winning records for Rockwall in his time as their starter. Last season, he threw for 3277 yards, 68% completion, 40 TDs, and 6 INTs. He holds offers from Miami, Kansas, UNC, Wake Forest, Rice, & SMU. He is followed by 1 coach - Cumbie
Another Rockwall product, Hoover threw for 3556 yards, 36 TDs, and 12 INTs for Rockwall-Heath last season. He holds offers from Arkansas, SMU, Tulane, Memphis, Tulsa, UTSA, among others. Arkansas is thought to be the leader at this point. He is followed by 3 coaches - Cumbie, Pehrson, and Smith.
A kid who @B. Golan has been talking up for quite some time after seeing him perform at a camp. @M. Clare wrote an Article about his recruitment today. Last year he put up 2591 yards, 25 TDs, 6 INTs, 68% completion, 246 rushing yards, 4 rushing TDs. His recruitment has recently blown up, holding offers from Florida, Colorado, Penn State, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Houston, Cincy, Boise St, among others. He is followed by 3 coaches - Cumbie, Pehrson, and Luke Wells.
Carson May is ranked as the top QB in Oklahoma for 2022 and holds offers from Old Dominion and Western Michigan. Last season he threw for 3007 yards, 26 TDs, 5 INTs, 650 yards rushing, and 14 TDs for Jones HS, which is at the 2A level in OK. He is a 6'5" kid with a big arm and could see more offers coming his way soon. Carson is followed by 2 coaches - Cumbie & Luke Wells
Cumbie has also recently followed Drew Berry ('22 - Canyon), Rodney Hall ('23 - Permian), Isaac Jordan Norris ('22 - Lake Travis), and Knox Dyson ('24 - Owasso).
I continue to look for a possible grad transfer QB target, but there isn't an obvious option at this point. I imagine more players will announce their intention to transfer soon, and the coaches could find one they like at that time.
I mentioned last week that Cumbie recently followed AJ Smith-Shawver on Twitter, who is signed to play baseball for Tadlock. He had received offers to play football at Incarnate Word, ACU, Furman, and Lafayette before committing to Tech for baseball. It is possible that Smith-Shawver will also play QB in Lubbock. AJ led Colleyville Heritage to an 8-1 record, while throwing for 2616 yards, 25 TDs, and 7 INTs.
