Some interesting convo today with Kenny Perry...some highlights.

What went into the decision to put Coy Eakin at punt returner?
"Josh has been banged up a little bit. Josh has got great hands, but obviously the other part is just trying to kick start our punt return. I'm not one of those guys gonna sit doing the same thing. Coy is a great player, we've got a lot of great players. It wasn't just Josh, its kind of our scheme that we're doing. So that falls on me, so I'm just trying to change some things up...He's been catching punts since he's been here. It's one of those deals that I feel really good about. I trust Coy, I trust them all. I shouldn't use the word trust, but I think Coy can do some stuff as well. He has done it before, and I just think going into that game where we were at, just wanted to try something different."

How was the bye?
"You know, it's good. Get some guys healthy, get on the road to recruit a little bit, little bit different than last year. When coach was letting us know we were all 3-5 coaches, this year we got to go as 5-1 coaches. It is what it is, just, you know, got to want to win, and we got a great opportunity ahead of us. And you know, like we've been saying, no regrets, let's go on...I mean, the best part about is, you get to get healthy. The worst part about is, I like playing games, you know. So this is part of it, you know. I I'm sure there's a rhyme or reason. No one asked me if we needed two bye weeks, so after that, I don't care what they do."

How have you guys not backed off getting out to the 5-1 start?
"It goes back to , everyone's different. You know, obviously, in this profession, coaches win with a lot of different styles. I'm worried about being 1-0. Obviously, some things happened last year. I still think, you know, as coaches, we did a great job from going from 3-5, the situation we were dealt to get into a bowl game. Kudos to Kittley, Tim DeRuyter and our head coach for rallying the troops last year. This year, obviously we're better football team. We're 5-1. I'm proud to be 5-1. I'm going to wear that across my chest, because from the first football game to where we're at now, we're a better football team. And our kids are, you know, they're practicing their butt off, and they're playing hard. We're playing physical, which for me has been key since I've been here. We've got to be a physical football team, you know, if you're going to win consistently, that's what you got to be. And I think that's kind of where we're shifting."

You broke the pattern with the kickers for the first time in Tucson, anything to that?

"Kind of one of those deals. It goes back to kind of, who's doing what practice wise. We'll be back with both those guys this week. Starting last week, they started competing again. And we've got back into compete mode. And, you know, I kind of go into the game pregame, halftime. It matters. I mean, you have to evaluate your guys. Specialists are no different. And just, you know, that situation, Gino had been hitting the ball good, and he got the shot. This next week, it could be Reese. They're both still getting ready to go in the game, so I'm not changing that."
