...Iowa State.

Sounds ridiculous, but hear me out. If we had Iowa State's defense simply in terms of just a bit more depth, a bit more experience and 1-2 playmakers, Tech is a 10-2 team. We beat TCU, West Virginia and Oklahoma State.

Iowa State gave up 10 less points and 90 less yards a game -- 32.9 to 42.4 points, 456 to 546 yards. In the six common opponents, ISU held every team to less points than Tech did. Yeah, they gave up 66 points to our offense, but imagine a focused Tech offense going against our defense for four quarters.

ISU has that old dude as their DC who has been around a long time and at least has a system and continuity in place. They don't have great athletes, but that have decent competitive athletes. That's certainly a realistic goal for Tech.

Tech will never get the dominant defensive athletes like Michigan State, Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, Florida, etc. That stuff is fantasy football.

But give Gibbs three years to continue to build depth, have the same system, hear the same voice and you will see a team that shaves 10 points and 100 yards a game. Is that great? No, it's simply realistic and attainable. And if you combine that with what you would think would be typical offensive output under KK, now you're challenging for 10 wins.

I'm not writing off 2016 at all. I think you see something similar to this year, but 2017, when Mahomes is a senior, a rebuilding OL has a year under its belt, and more importantly, Gibbs is in year three with his guys, think you might see something special.
