Last night my family of 5 went to dinner and when we got the bill it was MUCH less than I expected because the waiter didn't put any of our drinks on there.
I figured out how much the bill would have been and gave that as my tip. My assumption was the guy was simply doing us a favor giving us drinks for free. When I used to be a waiter I expected whatever I have free to someone to be paid to me as a tip.
My wife thought otherwise and said I should have told him it wasn't on the bill. She said since the guy didn't know us it wouldn't make sense for him to give us booze for free.
What say you?
