ANDREWS An Andrews High School senior is making history within his community.

Ethan Azam has been accepted to all three military academies, United States Air Force Academy, The United States Naval Academy and the United States Military Academy (West Point). Making him the first Andrews ISD student to be accepted to a three academies.

According to a news release from Andrews ISD, the application for each academy takes roughly two years to complete. Part of the application for each academy is a nomination from the student’s Congressman, Senator, or the Vice President of the U.S. Once the student has secured a nomination, each academy reviews the applications and begins to send out official appointments on a rolling basis beginning in Dec/Jan and ending in May.

Rep. Mike Conway (TX-11) gave Ethan a nomination to each of the three academies, and by January, Ethan had received the news of his appointments to each of the academies.

Ethan has accepted the offer of appointment from the Air Force Academy and will report to the AFA in Colorado Springs this summer, the news release states.

Air Force Academy students are Cadets on active duty in the United States Air Force. Cadets attend the Academy for four years, graduating with Bachelor of Science degree and then commission as Second Lieutenants serving at least five years in the Air Force.

Azam is one of around 1,000 students accepted into the Air Force Academy. The news release states around 10,000 students apply every year.

Widely regarded as one of the finest undergraduate academic institutions in the world and consistently ranked in the top 20 of America's colleges and universities by Forbes and US News and World Report, the Air Force Academy offers a core curriculum of academic and professional courses allowing Cadets to choose majors in engineering, science, mathematics, computer science, humanities, social sciences, and military sciences.

As well, Cadets undergo training in Air Force operations in a deployed environment (called Expeditionary Skills and Evasion Training [ESET]) and may participate in flying gliders, cyber-warfare training, satellite and space operations, unmanned systems, or free-fall parachute training.

The Academy is set on 18,500 acres on the east side of the Rampart Range of the Rocky Mountains, north of Colorado Springs, CO.
