Ok, I need to start this by saying that, as far as it goes, I have good in-laws. There's no drama or fights or anything like that.

That said...man, being around them Tues night - Sat morning drives me crazy. Wish we were heading out tomorrow. So my wife and I have a 2 1/2 year old. Her brother and sister in law have an almost 4 year old and an 18 month old. The kids get along fairly well, but at that age everything is great until it is all of a sudden not and everything is terrible and cousins are mortal enemies.

Anyway, I think my BIL & SIL see being around family as a chance to have other people watch your kids to some degree, which I get. But my mother and father in law mostly just sit around on their phones. My father in law will sometimes play with the grandkids, and he's fun when he does. As for my mother in law, I've never seen her get down and play with my son. But I've seen her get down and let my dog lick her face which is something we work for him NOT to do, but that's a different frustration.

So for the past two days it feels like we are watching our kid 100% of the time, my nephews 50% of the time, and refereeing between the three of them 95% of the time.

Oh, and to take a break my wife and I took our son on his little glide bike thing around the block a couple of times just to get out of the house...we came back and our 4 year old nephew really wanted to try it. My wife asked if her bro or sister in law wanted to take him and neither of them did because "that sounds awful" (since it's like 45 degrees...). So my wife took him. I don't get it.

So...what are yours?
