This past Tuesday I found about a dozen little bugs with wings on the floor by our bay window at the front of the house. I didn’t know if they were ants or termites, so I hopped on the google and determined they were termites. We vacuumed them up and left a few pairs of wings so an exterminator could confirm what they were.

I looked up exterminators and Fox Pest Control had good reviews in Midland so I gave them a call and they came out today. They confirmed it was termites and did a visual inspection of the entire house, inside and out. They didn’t find any other spots in the house where they might be, but obviously it’s hard to tell without ripping out the drywall.

To treat them, they said they’d need to drill holes through the concrete slab foundation at the front and back of the house to pour the treatment down and then dig some kind of trench for treatment on the sides of the house. The quote for all of this was about $2,800 and that is why I come to you guys.

I feel like $2,800 is insanely high for a house that’s about 1,600sqft. I don’t know if this the standard or the premium you pay in Midland. This is my first house and I’m 23 so I can barely change a light bulb, but I feel like I could do this myself for 10% of the cost.

Have you guys treated termites yourself? Was it successful? Domyown.com has termite control called Termidor SC with really good reviews for only $70 a bottle. Should I just do the research and do it myself or leave it to a professional? I’ll hang up and listen.
