I have seen a couple of stories (online) lately on airline passengers requesting other passengers on an airplane to switch seats.
Usually, it involves a family who wishes to sit together wanting a person who has a premium seat to switch seats. By premium, I mean a seat with additional legroom or some comfort feature. And in some cases, a seat that was paid additional monies to obtain.
I have switched seats in the past at request of others. Recently, I have booked several flights where I have paid significant additional monies for seat positioning. If someone requested to change seats with me, and the seat that I was ask to switch to loses leg room or is adjacent the toilets, I would be inclined to decline the request. I carefully plan my trips and pay up to $100 for seat preference.
However, I would discuss with the airline steward or stewardess first for their input and so that they could understand my position. Who knows, they may bump me up a cabin class.
