Who's excited for these things? We've had Waymo operating here in Austin for a while, but I haven't ridden in one yet. I'm torn. On the one hand, the transportation wonk in me wishes we'd commit the resources to mass transit, since this does nothing to decrease car trips. On the other, as a "vulnerable road user," I kinda feel safer with a robot car with cameras and lasers all over it than some moron texting and driving while I'm out riding a bicycle.
There was a news report a couple months back where some ut student fell off a Lime scooter directly into the street and the Waymo behind her swerved and missed her, no problem.
Anyway, what's the worst that could happen??
