Over the weekend, my wife and I found out that we are unexpectedly expecting our 2nd child. She was on birth control, but my troops unleashed an unrelenting assault and overran all defenses. So, Baby 8406 is due in late spring and we couldn't be more excited.
My wife took a 12 week maternity leave with our first, and she would like to do the same for our second child. However, my wife accepted a new job back in the summer and she found out today that they do not offer paid maternity leave. In addition, we do not have short-term disability coverage (only long-term).
I want to do everything I can to make sure she is able to take off 12 weeks, but without the paid maternity leave, we may be cutting it close.
Her previous company paid 6 weeks @ 60% of her salary, which came out to around $5,700. I'm confident that we can tighten up the expenses/budget for the next 7 months and meet that number, but I wanted to reach out to ya'll for any suggestions/tips for savings or any alternatives for paid maternity leave.
Guns up and thanks in advance.
