I am going to be teaching IB Physics at a private high school this year. I have planned out the tentative curriculum for the next two years and am working on several other components for the course. The class size is very small, and the students have chosen to take this class in lieu of other science courses. I have never formally taught a class but have extensive tutoring experience with college and HS students in groups ranging from 1-4 people at a time. The school liked my non traditional background (engineering degree plus experience in field) coupled with my passions for teaching and learning. I have (or at least under the impression) free rein over the course. I ultimately plan on going back to school bc I would like to teach in a college setting.
Any experienced teachers on board with advice/suggestions for first year teachers? What do you wish you had known, been told, or did differently during your first year teaching? Any resources - sites, books, or groups you suggest checking out?
Thanks!
