Today I came home for lunch and went out back to give my dog his midday treat of leftovers. I found my boxer “Buddy Wayne Garrity” passed away curled up in his doghouse house.

He has been slowing down the last couple months but thought he had more time left. (I was selfish and did not want to admit what needed to be done. ) He was 14 yrs old. Been through a divorce, a remarriage, a divorce, a remarriage…4 homes/moves. I got him via an adoption from a family with 4 small kiddos.

They had moved to town and their landlord would not allow pets. They told me his backstory.

He was used as a bait dog for fights when they rescued him. He had the scars to prove it. Much like my life.

They brought him up in their family and when they agreed to let me have him he was a 4 yr old boxer with a traumatic past. I also had a 4 yr old daughter who had been through trauma.

From the moment I brought him home-they connected immediately (my daughter and him)

He was fully housebroken trained/inside dog you name it. He slept on my daughter’s bed at her feet every night after that first divorce. He followed her everywhere she went-as far as putting himself as a bumper guard to keep her from accidentally hurting herself.

The nights without my daughter when it was just me and him…he snuggled up to me knowing my pain. He was an AVID tech fan. Watched every basketball and football game with me. I have the pictures to prove it!

He also let my then young daughter dress him in ridiculous outfits obliging her every whim. Always steadfast.

Always present.

Today-I had to deconstruct his dog house and pull him out. I wrapped him in my all time favorite Texas Tech blanket tight and laid him to rest.

Guns Up Buddy! Rest in peace
