A former Alvarado assistant football coach who pleaded guilty in 2005 to having sex with a student was found dead Saturday morning in a shed, the Parker County sheriff said Sunday.
Cody Ledbetter, 42, of Joshua, apparently killed himself, said Sheriff Larry Fowler on Sunday. A ruling on Ledbetter’s death has not been made pending an autopsy by the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Ledbetter was prounounced dead at 8:26 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Shary Drive, according to the medical examiner’s website on Sunday.
Ledbetter had pleaded guilty in 2005 to having sex with a 16-year-old from Alvarado in 2004. The crime occurred in Mansfield in Tarrant County. That same year, he also was charged with having sex with a young victim in Johnson County and given 10 years of probation.
He fled North Texas in 2005 and moved to Canada before he was sentenced in the Tarrant County case.
In 2010, Ledbetter surrenderd to the Ottawa Police Service in Ontario, Canada. He was accused of domestic assault involving a woman he was living with in Ottawa, but the charges were stayed, clearing the way for his extradition to Texas.
Ledbetter was sentenced in January 2011 in Fort Worth to 12 years in prison for having an improper relationship with a student. He had to serve three years before he was eligible for parole, but prison records were not available on Sunday to determine how long he served before he was released.
He had been a teacher and assistant football coach at Alvarado High School.
Ledbetter starred as quarterback at Stephenville High School and New Mexico State University, where he led Division I-A in total offense in 1995. He also played professionally with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
