When I was on vacation, I chartered a fishing guide. The guys asked me to pay through Venmo (no issues there). Wanting to earn miles, I used my credit card for the purchase. Today, I find out that I was charged 3% by Venmo (I get it...that is their stated fee) and I also got hit with a 5% "Cash Advance Fee" by my credit card company. It was explained to me that Venmo was a Cash Advance purchase.
To me, this is highly unethical and not a "cash advance anything". Aren't all credit card transactions, "cash transactions"? If I buy groceries or buy something through Amazon, is that not a cash transaction? Someone explain this to me so I can wrap my head around this legalized theft.
