I am in the market for a UTV. I just want something to take to my weekend place that I can toss a chain saw or string trimmer into the back and head down to the pasture/woods to do a little work. I have not owned one before.
I was just generally looking at them, and jeebus, they are priced high. That has me thinking of purchasing a used one, but depending on the answers I get here, I may forego that option. So, I have a few questions:
1. For those that have owned one before, any brands I should strongly consider or avoid?
2. Gas or diesel? I am open to either option.
3. Should I avoid used UTVs? Is this one of those products that, if you don't know how it has been treated, is fraught with trouble?
4. I was taking to a guy who told me that this is the worst time of year to buy one, because during Sept. and Oct., every doofus with a deer camp is buying. I tried to purchase one off of Craigslist, and it was snapped up in a heartbeat, so maybe there is some truth to that. I am not in a hurry...if there is any truth to this, I can wait. Thoughts on this point?
5. One guy told me UTVs are a PITA, and I would be better getting a beater mini pick up, like an old Toyota or Nissan, taking the doors off of it and using that. It's what he uses on his place in East Texas. Seemed outlandish, but I thought I'd throw that out here too.
